History of Our Firm
Alvin H. Huth formed Huth & Company in 1927 in the Lafayette Business Tower in downtown Lafayette, Indiana. In 1957 a new building was built at 10 N. 7th Street. The partners constructed an addition to the building in 1989/90 to accommodate the growing firm. Alvin began his practice to service the accounting needs of the fraternities and sororities in the area. He was a Public Accountant (PA) and volunteered many hours in the greater Lafayette Community. He helped start the arts programs as well as the Chamber of Commerce.
Alvin’s son, Ron, joined the firm in 1957. He became a partner in 1969 and retired in 2001. Ron attended Northwestern University and worked as a purchasing agent in the Navy before joining Huth & Company. While stationed in Washington D.C. he assisted in the production of the first computer. Ron kept technology a priority throughout his life. This carried over into his time with Huth Thompson LLP as he always made sure that the firm remained on the technology forefront. When computers were rarely seen in a firm, Ron made sure to have them.
In 1988 Debra Swick joined the firm. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University in 1978 and an accounting degree from Indiana University in 1984. She became a partner in 1994 and specialized in the areas of accounting, auditing, tax and financial consulting. Debra retired in June of 2015.
In 1991 Robert Sabolich joined the firm. Bob graduated from Mesa State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master’s in Tax Accounting from Colorado State University. He also has a Chartered Financial consultant designation from the American College. In 1994 Robert became a partner in the firm and served as the head of the Tax Department until his retirement in June of 2015.
Matthew L. Robertson joined the firm in 1997 after ten years in production agriculture. He graduated from Indiana University with a double major in accounting and finance/economics. He became a partner at Huth Thompson LLP in 2003 and has managed the Rensselaer office since 1999.
Thompson, Heller & Co.
Thompson, Heller & Co., PSC began in 1952 in the Lafayette Business Tower. In 1960, the office moved to a building at 427 N. 6th Street and in 1976 a new building was built at the same location.
Stephen M. Thompson graduated from Vincennes University in 1964 with an Associate in Science degree. He attended Indiana University and completed his degree in Accounting followed by a Master’s in Business Administration in 1967. Steve joined the firm in 1971 after three years with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in New York City and Indianapolis. He made the move to Lafayette and became partner in 1972 as a leader of the audit department. He was named Managing Partner in 1980 until his retirement in 2009.
John W. Heller graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and Indiana University with a law degree. John worked for Arthur Andersen LLP for five years before moving to Lafayette to join the firm in 1978. He became a partner in 1981 and directed the tax and pension services of the firm until his retirement in 2011.
Lincoln B. Perkins joined the firm in 1990 and became a partner in 2003. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1986. In 2008 he was named Managing Partner of Huth Thompson LLP until his retirement from that position in 2024.
Huth Thompson LLP
Huth Thompson LLP resulted from the merger of Thompson, Heller & Co., PSC and Huth and Company, LLC effective November 1, 1998. The firm operated out of two separate locations while building the Columbia Center where the Lafayette office is now located. The Columbia Center was the first building in over 30 years to be built in the downtown area. During that construction, Huth Thompson LLP also purchased the Blue & Co. LLC office in Rensselaer in July 1999. In December 1999 the firm moved to the current location at 415 Columbia Street.
Since then, the firm has continued to grow and has added five new partners: Kimberley Morisette in 2010; Kyle Clark and Travis Duell in 2014; James Corn and Kayla Kilgus in 2023.
